Nerd Block (Classic) Review: March 2015

Today I received my first Nerd Block. I decided to get a subscription to the Classic and the Arcade. Today's delivery was the Classic, my Arcade should arrive next week. I had really been looking forward to this after seeing video unboxings from a few different people and loving the items that I saw they were getting. I had been getting Loot Crate for the past 2 months only to be rather disappointed in the items in the box. I felt that they did not compare to Nerd Block. With each of my Loot Crates there was only ever 1 item that I like in each of the boxes, so I found that it was not suitable for me for the money that I was paying. I decided to move from Loot Crate to Nerd Block and I'm so glad that I did. This month Nerd Block Classic is wonderful. My eyes lit up when I opened the box and the first item I saw was a Simon Pegg/Shaun of the Dead t-shirt! It was in that moment that I knew I was going to love Nerd Block.

(How great is this shirt!)

The next item that caught my eye was this book. I am so excited to read this. I might have to bump it up my reading list as I have so much on there right now that I need to read but the others can wait.

Also got this cute little Rocket Raccoon magnet that will be going on the fridge.

I'm not a huge fan of these MunnyWorld products. The last one I got is still in the box. This one looked kinda cute though so I decided to open it. It'll probably end up being given to one of my cousins.

Up next on the list is these spider ice cubes and a Harley Quinn whoopee cushion. I've always wanted a whoopee cushion but have never owned one. Now I have a cool Harley one.

(I love that it says "Drop the Bomb")

These Guardians of the Galaxy nesting dolls now sit on my desk. I love that they included baby Groot. I like that they've put them in order of height wise too with Groot being tallest and baby Groot being smallest.

(Groot)

(Groot and Drax)

 (Groot, Drax and Star-Lord)

(Groot, Drax, Star-Lord and Gamora)

(Groot, Drax, Star-Lord, Gamora and Rocket)

(And finally: Groot, Drax, Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket and baby Groot)

After getting such a cool Nerd Block Classic I'm really looking forward to next weeks Nerd Block Arcade, as well as future Nerd Block Classics. Making the move from Loot Crate to Nerd Block was definitely a great choice. I do have 1 Loot Crate left to arrive but will definitely cancel after that arrive.

Hot Toys: Star-Lord and Rocket/Groot (2 pack)

Today I got an exciting email, and then a disappointing one, both from the same company. The first one was that in 10 days time my Hot Toys Star-Lord 12" figure would be arriving to the warehouse and then shipped to me! I was so happy after he had been postponed a little while. This was great news, and I couldn't wait to pay for him. All I had to do now was wait the 2 lots of delivery before he would finally be mine.

I then got a second email, which stated that the 2 pack of Hot Toys Rocket and Groot had been delayed, again... Why does every Hot Toys I order have to be delayed multiple times. They unfortunately seem to keep underestimating how long these things take. Never the less, I won't care in a few months time when they finally get shipped to me and they are added to my display cabinet.

Even with their constant and multiple delays, Hot Toys is definitely one of my favourite figure companies. They put so much effort and detail into these figures they are hard to pass up. Hence why my wallet constantly cries from buying quite a few of them. Also doesn't help when the company you order through keeps giving you vouchers as part of their "International Collector Appreciation" program to buy more because you spend quite a lot through them. That plus the multiple points I have collected up from buying figures through them. It does work out to be quite a nice discount, but oh man does my wallet hurt haha.

Now to wait for my parcel to arrive and to take lots of pictures.

Anime Review: I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying

When I first saw the name of the show it piqued my interest. Decided to read the synopsis and thought it was probably something I would like, One episode had only come out at the time so decided to give it ago. Next minute it's already over... What? I realised that the episodes were only about 3 minutes long. Series that are that short I tend to try to wait till it has fully been released before starting because you always end up wanting more and having to wait each week for such a short episode can get annoying. I decided to put the show on the back burner until it had finished.

Once the show had finished airing I sat down and watched it in one sitting, which obviously didn't take long at 3 minutes each for 12 episodes. It is a show that is easily watched in one sitting because of that. I enjoyed the show and wished there was a bit more, which luckily came true today in the announcement of a second season.

The show revolves around Kaoru, a hard working office lady, and her otaku husband Hajime after they get married. The title is pretty self explanatory, Kaoru cannot understand the the things that her husband says due to the fact that they mostly reference animes and so forth.

(This reference made me smile due to being one of my favourite shows)

There were things like this that made me smile and laugh. Kaoru had invited some friends over to meet her husband and this is what he wore.

(Hajime's brother)

All in all, if you are after a light bit of entertainment and something that is easy to watch and very short then I thoroughly recommend "I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying". I'd give it a 7.5/10. I look forward to the second season when it comes out.

Anime Review: Denki-Gai

I don't often get to keep up with new anime due to my list being rather long... I did however make an exception to a couple this season, one of those being Denki-Gai. Let's just say that I instantly fell in love with this show. I absolutely loved the humour in it and the various characters in the show. Fu-Girl was my favourite all the way through the series.

The series revolves around a group of coworkers who work for Umanohone bookstore. They sell manga, light novels and doujinshi. It has a lot of adult humour in it, so it is directed at an older audience. The first half of the series focuses on laughs, whereas the second half brings in a romance/comedy plot line. I will admit that I did enjoy the first half a lot better than the second half, but it was still enjoyable none the less. All of the female characters are very short compared to their male counterparts. Most animes have the characters at similar heights but here they are all much shorter, most noticeable when Fu-Girl and Sommelier stand next to each other.

(Sommelier and Fu-Girl)

One of the things I love is animes changing the name of brand name items, for obvious reasons.

(Oh Fu-Girl, never change)

(Nice try at censoring, and yes, you did read that right)

(One of the many reasons why Fu-Girl is my favourite)

 (Yes, but still adorable)

 (Zombies with glow sticks)

(Take my chocolate banana in your mouth <3)

(Pour that hot chocolate on me...)

 (Maybe...?)

(Who doesn't like a good boobs festival?)

(I don't think so...)

(They might get a little cold in there, maybe give them a jacket)

If you are looking for a show with a bit of humour, romance and slice of life, then I'd say give Denki-Gai a go. The series is only 12 episodes long so it is quite short and easy to get through. Each episode is split into 2-3 stories. I'd rate the show 8/10 due to having a laugh each episode.

Supanova Adelaide 2014

Hey guys,

I know many people have been waiting on Supanova pictures and I unfortunately didn't take too many. I spend a lot of my time at the Origin PC Australia booth helping out and showing people how to play Battlefield 4 and answer questions about the computers that were on sale. I will slowly post some photos and edit this post as I go through the photos so that you will have a few in the mean time. I hope everyone had a great time and I'll look forward to see you all again at Oz Comic Con 2015.

If you are, or know who are the people in the photos, please let me know so that I can edit the post and credit you and/or your cosplay page.

Hot Toys Review: Winter Soldier

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Hot Toys Winter Soldier figure, unfortunately seems like FedEx wants to hold onto if for a second day in my hometown... Please just deliver it and not let it sit in the warehouse.

UPDATE: Yay it finally arrive on the 3rd day of it being in Adelaide. I had talked to a number of people who said this was fairly common for FedEx and their "Week Shipping", meaning that if it was shipped on a Friday then you'll get it the following Friday, even if it arrives to your home town only after a couple day... Meaning it will sit in their warehouse until the week is up, which is ridiculous...

When the FedEx delivery van rocked up out the front of my house I ran out to meet him as I was super excited to finally have my Winter Soldier figure. I had a number of errands to run that day so I wanted to unpack as soon as possible.

I was so excited to have another Hot Toys figure to join The Avengers Loki that I had pre-ordered 2 years ago after the movie had come out (unfortunately it got delayed more times than I can even remember). Because I was in a hurry I basically just pulled him out of the box, took a few quick snaps on my phone to post on my personal Facebook page and then set him up next to Loki before I headed out to finish my errands for the day.

Fast forwarding to today and I thought I'd give him a quick once over and take a few photos with my camera and set up a few of his accessories that he came with. Oh boy were some of them very fiddly. A number of time the guns on his pants kept falling off every time I tried to move him.

The box is beautiful. I love the design of it. The back of the box also includes a list of people that worked on the figure.

I'm glad that I did decide to pre-order it when I did. I think I would have been kicking myself if I did, like I do every day for not pre-ordering The Avengers Phil Coulson. After he was released there were only a couple available left on the website, however they would not ship it to Australia, only USA. I was so disappointed that I had missed out and I may just have to find a secondhand one on eBay at a later stage.

This figure is amazing! I just can't get over how amazingly detailed it is. Hot Toys always knows how to make a beautiful piece with such detail. So much effort goes into them and it shows.

Not only is the face very detailed, but the outfit also. I love that with each figure the base stand has not only the characters name but also the movie that they appear.

Close up of the face for a closer look at the accuracy to Sebastian Stan, plus a little close up of the upper body outfit. For such a small outfit there is so much detail still put in it. A lot of other companies won't put this much detail into something of this size and smaller. For example, if a similar  figure was made the straps wouldn't be this detailed. Many companies will give the illusion that they would be wearing straps but not add it the details like buckles and eyelets. These small detail is why I have been a fan of Hot Toys for some time now.

Unfortunately with mine there is an issue... As you can see with the above image the way that the gun sits. The holster should actually be rotated 180°. I never would have noticed if I hadn't looked at the instruction manual. It's not a huge issue that I could probably fix myself. It does make me wonder if mine wasn't the only one with this issue.

For now he sits on my table next to Loki until I get my new display case. He is in view of my computer so that I can admire the craftsmanship from my desk. If you have been hesitating getting one, I highly recommend not only him but any of the figures that Hot Toys makes. Yes, they do come with quite the high price tag, but to me it is worth it.

Soon I'll have a few more Hot Toys added to my collection, end of this month is the special 2 pack of Steve Rogers [not available separately] and Captain America [available separately]. Plus the Guardian of the Galaxy set which is due for release next year.
